The short version of anti-doping category fits in a sentence. The long version — which is the one that helps — is below.
This page was last updated on 2026-03-23 and is reviewed periodically as new material appears.
Doses in the literature are usually expressed in micrograms or nanograms per kilogram of body weight. Investigators have administered the peptide by several routes, including injection and oral delivery, depending on the question asked. Route and dose vary widely across studies, which complicates direct comparison of results. Many papers report effects at low doses, but the absence of a standardized protocol limits generalization. Reporting practice differs between research groups.
Some properties, such as the peptide's sequence and molecular mass, are firmly established. Other claims, particularly about mechanism and clinical benefit, remain open questions. Proposed mechanisms include effects on nitric oxide signaling and on cell migration, but these are hypotheses supported by limited evidence. Reviewers often note that the field lacks large controlled human trials. Positive animal findings are best treated as signals for further study rather than as settled conclusions.
Outside laboratory supply channels, the peptide is sold as a research chemical, a category that carries no requirement to demonstrate purity, identity, or freedom from contamination. Because it is not an approved medicine, products labeled BPC-157 sit in a regulatory gap in many countries, and actual content may differ from the label. Sports organizations list it among prohibited substances, so its presence in an athlete's sample can produce a doping finding regardless of how the material was obtained.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide of fifteen amino acids, written as GEPPPGKPADDAGLV, whose sequence matches part of a larger protein identified in human gastric juice. That parent protein was described in stomach-secretion research, and the fifteen-residue fragment was named body protection compound, which gives the peptide its common label. Material used in experiments is produced by solid-phase peptide synthesis rather than extracted from tissue. The reported molecular weight is about 1419 daltons, and the chain contains several proline residues, a feature that appears in discussions of its resistance to enzymatic breakdown.

Material of this kind is sold for laboratory research, and labels typically state that it is not intended for human or veterinary use. In many countries it is not an approved medicine, and sports antidoping rules place it among prohibited non-approved substances. Buyers commonly review a certificate of analysis, an independent test report, and the declared storage conditions. Batch-to-batch variation in purity and in counterion content is possible, and how much that variation affects experimental outcomes remains an open question.
Lyophilized peptide is normally kept at minus twenty degrees Celsius or colder, away from light and moisture. Powder held under those conditions is widely treated as stable for long periods, although published stability studies for this exact sequence are sparse and often come from suppliers rather than independent laboratories. Once dissolved, solutions are generally handled cold and used within a short window, because peptide bonds can hydrolyze over time. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are usually avoided to limit losses, and exact shelf-life figures depend on the buffer and the concentration involved.
Identity and purity are established using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, which separates the peptide from related impurities and yields a percentage purity. Mass spectrometry, typically with electrospray ionization, confirms the molecular mass against the expected value. Amino acid analysis or peptide mapping provides additional sequence confirmation. These methods are complementary, since chromatography measures how much material is present while mass spectrometry verifies what that material is. A certificate of analysis normally reports both.
Analytical results depend on the column, gradient, and detector wavelength chosen by the laboratory, so purity values from different sources are not always directly comparable. Water content, counterion form, and residual trifluoroacetate affect both mass and purity calculations. Microbiological and endotoxin testing are separate from chemical purity and are not covered by a standard chromatographic run. Buyers evaluating a material typically request the full method description rather than a single purity figure.
Lyophilized peptide powder is generally stored at minus twenty degrees Celsius or lower and kept away from light and moisture. Under these conditions degradation is slow, and sealed vials remain stable for extended periods. Once dissolved, the material is less stable, particularly in aqueous buffers near neutral pH, where hydrolysis and oxidation proceed faster. Solutions are usually kept cold and used within days to weeks. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided because they encourage aggregation.
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide built from fifteen amino acid residues. Its sequence comes from a larger protein fragment that researchers isolated from human gastric juice and described as a body protection compound. The fragment contains glycine, glutamic acid, five prolines, lysine, alanine, two aspartic acids, leucine, and valine. The number 157 in the name refers to the position of the stretch within the parent protein. Material used in laboratories is manufactured rather than extracted from stomach fluid.
The molecule carries 15 residues, a molar mass near 1419.5 g/mol, and the formula C62H98N16O22. Its structure features a proline-rich central region, a pair of adjacent aspartic acid residues, and no cysteine. The absence of cysteine means no disulfide bonds can form, which simplifies refolding and reconstitution. Suppliers usually ship the material as a freeze-dried powder that appears white to off-white. It dissolves readily in water and in saline solutions.
Chloroplasts are a special type of a plant cell organelle called a plastid, though the two terms are sometimes used interchangeably. There are many other types of plastids, which carry out various functions. All chloroplasts in a plant are descended from undifferentiated proplastids found in the zygote, or fertilized egg. Proplastids are commonly found in an adult plant's apical meristems. Chloroplasts do not normally develop from proplastids in root tip meristems—instead, the formation of starch-storing amyloplasts is more common. In shoots, proplastids from shoot apical meristems can gradually develop into chloroplasts in photosynthetic leaf tissues as the leaf matures, if exposed to the required light. This process involves invaginations of the inner plastid membrane, forming sheets of membrane that project into the internal stroma. These membrane sheets then fold to form thylakoids and grana. If angiosperm shoots are not exposed to the required light for chloroplast formation, proplastids may develop into an etioplast stage before becoming chloroplasts. An etioplast is a plastid that lacks chlorophyll, and has inner membrane invaginations that form a lattice of tubes in their stroma, called a prolamellar body. While etioplasts lack chlorophyll, they have a yellow chlorophyll precursor stocked. Within a few minutes of light exposure, the prolamellar body begins to reorganize into stacks of thylakoids, and chlorophyll starts to be produced. This process, where the etioplast becomes a chloroplast, takes several hours. Gymnosperms do not require light to form chloroplasts.
=== Valorization and circular economy === Recent trends in the dairy industry focus on a circular economy approach, transforming whey treatment plants into biorefineries. Instead of producing only biogas, processes can be tuned for acidogenic fermentation to produce volatile fatty acids (VFAs) via the carboxylate platform. Recent findings suggest that applying thermal and alkaline pre-treatments to the inoculum can effectively halt methanogenesis, thereby favoring the accumulation of VFAs, which serve as valuable precursors for bioplastics and other chemicals. Integrated systems coupling anaerobic digestion with microalgae cultivation have also been proposed. In these "closed-loop" scenarios, the nutrient-rich digestate serves as a substrate for microalgal biomass production, which can be harvested for biofuels or high-value pigments, while simultaneously recovering nitrogen and phosphorus (e.g., as struvite).
== Application == APCI is suited for thermal stable samples with low to medium (less than 1500 Da) molecular weight, and low to medium polarity. It is particularly useful for analytes that are not sufficiently polar for electrospray. The application area of APCI is the analysis of drugs, nonpolar lipids, natural compounds, pesticides and various organic compounds, but it is of limited use in the analysis of biopolymers, organometallics, ionic compounds and other labile analytes.
The Cuban government declared two days of national mourning on 5 and 6 January 2026 for its soldiers killed in the attacks. Later on 16 January, tens of thousands of Cubans gathered in the José Martí Anti-Imperialist Platform outside the US embassy in Havana to demonstrate against US actions in Venezuela, the killings of 32 Cuban officers in the attack, and to demand the release of Maduro. On 10 January, Nicaraguan authorities arrested over 60 people for supporting the capture of Maduro. UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that US actions had "worrying implications for the region", "constitute[d] a dangerous precedent", and worried "that the rules of international law have not been respected". He called on all Venezuelan actors to engage in an inclusive and democratic dialogue, stating "I welcome and am ready to support all efforts aimed at assisting Venezuelans in finding a peaceful way forward". At the request of China, Colombia, and Russia, the UNSC convened on 5 January 2026 to discuss the situation. Representatives of Russia and China called for the immediate release of President Maduro while the US representative rejected characterizations of US actions as military aggression, describing the operation as a targeted law enforcement measure to arrest an indicted fugitive. The attack was condemned by other countries, including Brazil, Chile, China, France, Iran, Mexico, North Korea, Russia, Slovakia, South Africa, and Spain. Government leaders in Argentina, France, Germany, Israel, Peru, and Ukraine praised the developments.
== Detection in alcoholic beverages == The concerns raised by the toxicological aspects of EC together with the low concentration levels (μg/L) found in wines, as well as the occurrence of interferences on detection, has motivated several researchers to develop new methods to determine it in wines. Several extraction and chromatographic techniques have been used, including continuous liquid–liquid extraction (LLE) with Soxhlet apparatus, derivatization with 9-xanthydrol followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with fluorescence detection and even LLE after derivatization, followed by gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry detection (GC–MS). On the other hand, the reference method set by the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV) uses solid phase extraction (SPE) preceding GC–MS quantification. Other methods also make use of SPE, but use gas chromatography with mass spectrometry (MDGC/MS) and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) for detection. Most of the methodologies found in the literature to quantify EC use gas chromatography, using LLE and SPE as extraction techniques. Nevertheless, several efforts have also been done to develop new methodologies to determine EC without using long procedures and hard-working analyses, combining precision to high sensitivity.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee has investigated the origins of the pandemic, and heard classified briefings. The Republican minority issued a report in August 2021 that they believed the origin of the pandemic was an accidental lab escape. The resurgence of the theory of a laboratory accident was fueled in part by the publication, in May 2021, of early emails between Anthony Fauci and scientists discussing the issue, before deliberate manipulation was ruled out as of March 2020. On 14 July 2021, the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology held the first congressional hearing on the origins of the virus. Bill Foster, an Illinois Democrat who chaired the hearing, said the Chinese government's lack of transparency is not in itself evidence of a lab leak and cautioned that answers may not be known even after the administration produces its intelligence report. Expert witnesses Stanley Perlman and David Relman presented to the congressman different proposed explanations for the origins of the virus and how to conduct further investigations. On 16 July 2021, CNN reported that Biden administration officials considered the lab leak theory "as credible" as the natural origins theory. In October 2022, an interim report of a Republican member of a US Senate committee concluded that a lab origin was most likely, but offered "little new evidence", according to The New York Times. In February 2023, the United States Energy Department updated its assessment on the origins of the virus, shifting from "undecided" to "low confidence" in favor of a laboratory leak.
The film received criticism for damaging the filming location in Thailand, after which DiCaprio worked to restore the area. After shooting The Beach, DiCaprio auditioned for Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge! (2001) but was rejected; He later asserted it was due to his poor singing abilities. In the mid-1990s, DiCaprio agreed to be in the mostly improvised black-and-white short film Don's Plum as a favor to aspiring director R. D. Robb. When Robb expanded it to a full-length film in the early 2000s to capitalize on the fame of DiCaprio and co-star Tobey Maguire, DiCaprio and Maguire had its release blocked in the US and Canada by court order, arguing they never intended to make a feature film. The film premiered at the 2001 Berlin International Film Festival but remains obscure.

=== Vietnamese === Vietnamese is an isolating language, which naturally limits the length of a morpheme. The longest, at seven letters, is nghiêng, which means "inclined" or "to lean". This is the longest word that can be written without a space. However, not all words in Vietnamese are single morphemes. Indeed, nghiêng can be reduplicated as nghiêng nghiêng. The written language abounds with compound words in which each constituent word is delimited by spaces, just like any freestanding word. Moreover, the grammar lacks inflection to mark parts of speech, and prepositions are often optional. Therefore, the boundary between a word and a phrase is poorly defined. Examples of this ambiguity include:
The vast majority of genetically modified animals are at the research stage with the number close to entering the market remaining small. As of 2018 only three genetically modified animals have been approved, all in the USA. A goat and a chicken have been engineered to produce medicines and a salmon to increase its growth. Despite the differences and difficulties in modifying them, the end aims are much the same as for plants. GM animals are created for research purposes, production of industrial or therapeutic products, agricultural uses, or improving their health. There is also a market for creating genetically modified pets.

Human data are limited. Most evidence comes from animal experiments and from small or uncontrolled reports. The absence of large trials means clinical effects and safety are not firmly established.
Frequently measured outcomes include wound healing, blood vessel growth, and tissue repair markers. Some work examines gastrointestinal protection. The choice of endpoint depends on the model used.
Different routes of administration and different animal models require different amounts. Studies also use varied timelines and measurement methods. This variation makes it difficult to combine results into a single standardized figure.
It is not approved for human use in the United States or the European Union. Clinical material has been studied in a small number of early trials, mainly for inflammatory bowel conditions, and the compound remains investigational. Regulators treat marketed products as unapproved rather than as authorized drugs.
